Stock Building Supply is one of the largest suppliers of building materials to professional home builders and contractors in the United States. We operate an internal distribution network which efficiently moves material from 10 major distribution hubs to SBS branches, satellites, and customers. We serve local, regional and national home builders, repair & remodel contractors, light commercial and multi-family contractors and homeowners. We align ourselves with industry-leading manufacturers and suppliers who understand and support our culture and our environmental strategy. We believe that we can help drive both the quality of building materials as well as the use of environmentally friendly practices and products.
Corporate principles relating to the environment include: the integration of environmental management into business operations; a commitment to the adoption and achievement of best practices; a commitment to prevent pollution; compliance with local environmental legislation; the adoption of local formal environmental management systems; a commitment to strive for continual improvement; and, a commitment to ensure proper communication with associates on environmental matters.
Our primary product wood suppliers are certified by recognized forestry sustainability agencies including the Sustainable Forestry Initiative of the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) and the Canadian Standards Association. They are required to integrate the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, and soil and water quality. Stock Building Supply constantly reviews suppliers’ policies and encourages verified sustainable forestry management.
We do business with reputable suppliers, and use our global purchasing influence to ensure that they verify compliance with their environmental policies. At Stock Building Supply, we are guided by the following principles:
- We rely on our suppliers to practice wise and sustainable forestry management and timber procurement methods.
- We support the efforts of the AF&PA Sustainable Forestry Initiative and similar programs developed by organizations such as the CSA and the FSC.
- We will work closely with our supplier partners to develop innovative and alternative building materials.
- We will recycle in our own manufacturing facilities and encourage the development and use of products containing recycled materials.
- We are committed to minimizing the environmental health and safety risk for our associates and our customers.
- We will monitor and maintain our fleet of delivery equipment to ensure efficient, clean operation and to match the nearest source of products to our customers’ requirements.
- We will train our associates about new and improved products and materials, including green and energy-conserving products, and we will share this knowledge with our customers.
- We will work towards continual improvement, and strive to adopt and achieve environmental best practices.
